Hey there, I'm Isabel Rodriguez. I’m originally a California girl, but I moved to Nevada in the middle of the pandemic. There are a few things I miss about California, but overall, I’m happy with the move, especially because I got all my dogs here. They mean everything to me. I’m currently working on my Associate of Business and hope to transfer to UNLV to pursue my bachelor’s in Accounting. In my free time, I enjoy reading fantasy books by authors like Brandon Sanderson and Sarah J. Maas. I also spend a lot of time with my three dogs.
When I signed up for IS101, it was mainly because it was one of the classes that would satisfy a requirement and fit with my work schedule. It’s only been the second week, but I think I made the right choice. I’m confident that by the end, of the semester, I will have gained valuable knowledge and skills that I can apply both in my education and at work.
For example, one of our assignments was 2.3.5 Shared Storage in LabSim. At work, we use shared folders, but I never knew their proper name or how to use them effectively. After going over this chapter, I started applying this new knowledge to my work documents. I’m gaining a lot of useful information, and I’ve been sharing what I’ve learned with my coworkers.
Very glad to hear you think you made the right choice about IS101-3205, Spring 2025, Isabel ^_^
ReplyDeleteYes, students often tell me or even show me how they applied what they learned in the classroom to outside the classroom :-)
At the end of Phase 1, you are on the heel of the student in the pole position. I have no doubt you will not only earn your Associate of Business here at CSN but will earn your Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting!
Hey Isabel! That’s awesome that your move to Nevada worked out especially since you got to bring all your dogs with you! IS101 has definitely been more valuable than I expected too, and it’s great that you’re already applying what you’ve learned at work. Shared storage is such a useful tool, and being able to teach your coworkers just proves how valuable this class is. Looking forward to learning alongside you this semester! ^-^
ReplyDeleteHello Isabel! I moved here just one month before the pandemic hit, not realizing how much that would affect Nevada's economy, but just like you, I still miss California because of the memories I created and the amazing street food they had before every corner became overly populated with street vendors. IS101 was a requirement for me as well, and I'm very glad I made the decision to take this course with Professor Wu as the instructor. I find it amazing when we use things we learned in IS101 for our work or on a day-to-day basis because in this course, we go into depth with information systems when I thought I would only be learning Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Good luck on your journey!
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel! I am also a California girl! Specifically, I moved from San Diego right after graduating high school. It's been great, but man, I miss the beach! Shared storage is such a game changer in a business setting. It's so great to hear that you are already applying what we are learning in IS101 in your daily life and also sharing your knowledge with your coworkers. Seems like you are a great asset to your coworkers!
ReplyDeleteImpressive, a move during Covid must have been an adventure. That period in time was interesting and I can imagine it added to the frustration of moving. I am glad to hear LabSim is helping you in your everyday tasks at work.
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel! Having three dogs sounds like a handful, especially since I only have one and she drives me crazy at times! But like you said, my dog means everything to me and truly completes my family. Sharing what you’ve learned and helping boost your coworker’s digital literacy is wonderful! I’m sure they appreciate it, as it’ll help them complete their task more efficiently. Keep up the great work Isabel!
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel! It's great to hear about your journey from California to Nevada, and I can totally understand how much your dogs mean to you—they’re such an important part of life! I have two of my own, so I know exactly how you feel. It’s awesome that you're pursuing an Associate in Business and planning to transfer to UNLV for Accounting. I can relate to your experience with IS101; I chose the class because it was required, and the Saturday schedule fit well with my work commitments. However, you're absolutely right—it’s turned out to be a great choice!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the rest of the semester! I’m sure you’re going to do great!.
Hello Isabel, I love going to California as it reminds me of the weather and the scenery like the beaches, mountains, and the greenery from back home.
ReplyDeleteShared storage is an essential tool for workspaces for easy and quick access removing the need to get up from the seat to work efficiently.
Hi Isabel!
ReplyDeleteI just read ACOTAR for the first time—it was pretty intense! But I totally understand why it’s one of Sarah J. Maas’ most popular books.
Since you’re from California, what would you recommend for someone planning a trip there soon?
Glad to hear you’re applying the lessons from LabSim to your job—even going as far as helping your coworkers with it. Kudos to you! The folders lesson really helped me organize my files too!
Geez, can't believe you had such a big move in the middle of the pandemic. Glad you've acclimated here pretty well, and I hope the best in you finding out all of Vegas's cool spots.
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel,
ReplyDeleteThree dogs?! I have one and he is a handful. What are their names? :)
In your comment on my blog you mentioned you like reading fantasy but are open to thrillers. One I definitely recommend is "The Memory Watcher" by Melissa Kent. I just couldn't put it down! If you have any fantasy recommendations, send them my way. I am also transferring to UNLV in the future. Hopefully we run in to each other.
I wish you nothing but success in the future! :)
Hey Isabel,
ReplyDeleteMoving states during the pandemic must have been quite an experience, but it’s great to hear you’re happy with the move—especially with your dogs by your side! Your plan to pursue accounting at UNLV sounds exciting, and being a Brandon Sanderson and Sarah J. Maas fan means you’ve got great taste in books!
It’s awesome that IS101 is turning out to be more than just a requirement. Learning about shared storage and immediately applying it at work shows how valuable these skills can be. Plus, sharing your knowledge with coworkers is a great way to reinforce what you’ve learned.
Wishing you the best in your studies and future at UNLV!
Hey Isabel,
ReplyDeleteI also am a west coast girl, but I was born in Las Vegas. I also moved during the pandemic but I moved across the country to Florida with my husband. I have only been to California a handful of times but I do like the weather there, and you guys have a beach which is always a plus, especially since it's just dirt out here! I am currently taking an accounting class and it can be difficult since I am not that great at math, so I commend you for being able to do it!
Hello Isabela,
ReplyDeleteI also am required to take this class for my degree. That being said after talking to my friends and family about the class I think it is a class I would take regardless to get the crucial knowledge navigating Microsoft Office.
Hi Isabel, what type of dogs do you have? I also have a dog and he's great, they are definitely man's bestfriend. They know when and how to cheer you up when your down. As much as there is a lot of assignments for IS101, learning about digital literacy is definitely rewarding as we use it in our daily life. I hope you succeed on gaining your bachelor's degree in Accounting, Goodluck!
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel, I’m also from CA, Los Angeles and I agree with you about missing a few things. For example, Disneyland, Universal Studios, the beach, food locations, hiking, being surrounded by all my family and their parties and most importantly the perfect weather. But it’s just too crowded for me now, the less people the better. Even though LA was dangerous growing up (still can be), I did have an amazing life there. Its good that you’re already applying a skill at work with what we have learned. Nothing is better than making our jobs easier, you’re so nice for sharing your knowledge with coworkers.
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel,
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is a cool state. I enjoy the beaches down there. I also enjoy spending time with my dog. I love hikes.
Hi Isabel! I too like to read fantasy books, are there certain books from those authors that are your favorite or that impacted you more than others? I also think your dogs are so cute! It is definitely much better to be with the pups so I understand your moving reason.
